London musician Kamran Khan records under the name Fake Laugh, making delicate guitar pop that seems equally influenced by ’80s groups like The Smiths, and the underwater guitar sounds of Mac DeMarco. Having already released a single on influential label Fierce Panda, he’s got a double-A-side 7″ coming out soon via Canvasclub, and we’ve got the premiere of “Birdsong Lullaby” in this post. Says Kamaran:
The title comes from when I was living in Whitechapel and working at a pub. The birds start tweeting at around 2 30am, so there’d always be a birdsong lullaby for me when I went to sleep. The song itself is based on having a fairly nocturnal routine and generally feeling pretty pathetic. I suppose it’s also a bit of a plea to have one’s problems fixed by someone else.
