QUASI / SLANG
Janet Weiss recently left Sleater-Kinney, and now her bands Quasi (with Sam Coomes) and Slang (with former Thermals bassist Kathy Foster and others) have announced a West Coast tour together, which begins two days before Sleater-Kinney’s tour begins, also on the West Coast.
THE PARANOYDS (DATES w/ BLEACHED, WHITE REAPER)
L.A. band The Paranoyds will release their debut album, Carnage Bargain September 13 via Suicide Squeeze. Right before that, they’ll hit the road as openers on Bleached’s tour which includes a stop at Brooklyn’s Elsewhere Hall on 9/19. After that, they’ve got some dates with White Reaper in St. Louis, Des Moines and St. Paul, and then have a few headlining shows including San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Reno, Portland and Seattle. BAMBARA
Brooklyn band Bambara, who released the terrific Shadow on Everything last year, have a few tour dates coming up, including DC on 9/4 and their old stomping grounds of Atlanta on 9/6. They’ll also be in the UK in late October and upon return will play a NYC show at Saint Vitus on 11/8. All dates are here.
KING PRINCESS
Rising pop singer King Princess just gets bigger and bigger. Following a standout track on the very good new Mark Ronson album and the announcement of her own debut album, Cheap Queen, King Princess has already sold out the Terminal 5 show on her upcoming tour and now added a second date.
LONGWAVE
Back from hibernation, NYC shoegazy indie rock outfit Longwave will release If We Live Forever, their first album in 11 years, on October 25. They’ll also be on tour in Novemeber, opening for Blue October, playing Rochester, Buffalo, Chicago, Toronto, Norfolk, Baltimore, New York (Webster Hall on 11/14), Cleveland, and Knoxville. JASON LYTLE (GRANDADDY)
Grandaddy frontman Jason Lytle has a new instrumental album on the way and he’s also got a few live shows, too, playing Dallas’ Good Records on Saturday to inaugurate the store’s new locale, plus he’ll play the opening of his art exhibit at NYC’s 99 Orchard and Joe’s Pub in August.
BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE CANCEL UK/EU TOUR
Broken Social Scene, who just played a big show in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park on Thursdaynight (7/25), have announced today that their upcoming UK/European tour has been canceled due to health issues. From singer/guitarist Kevin Drew: “Rest has been forced upon me and I have to honour this process. So much love and gratitude to our fans. Our deepest apologies.”
KAYO DOT
Experimental Brooklyn band Kayo Dot will release their new album Blasphemy, in September and look to be touring this fall, though so far only the NYC show has been announced.
