Seattle indie rock cult heroes The Young Fresh Fellows are giving their 1984 debut album and college radio classic,The Fabulous Sounds Of The Pacific Northwest, a deluxe 40th anniversary reissue. It’s out June 28 via Omnivore Recordings. Pre-order yours.
The original album, which was produced by Conrad Uno and released on Pop Lama, has been remixed from the original 8-track tapes by bandleader Scott McCaughey (who went on to be a touring member of R.E.M. and is currently in The Minus Five, Filthy Friends and The Baseball Project). It’s now got a little more low end than the charming if tinny-sounding original release. Fans of the original album take note: the between-song clips of the narrator, swiped from the sound effects album that gave The Fabulous Sounds its name (and artwork), have been removed and the cover art has updated to make the whole thing fresh and less litigious.
The CD edition comes with a second disc featuring Merry Croutons Mr. Gulp Gulp, an ultra-rare, holiday-party-in-the-studio cassette from 1984 that only around 200 copies were made of.

The Young Fresh Fellows will be touring on the East Coast — something they haven’t done in 23 years — on their way to Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival this month. The NYC stop is at Bowery Electric on June 27 with The Figgs. All dates are listed below.
