The Hard Quartet (Malkmus / Sweeney / Kelly / White) share new single ahead of tour

The Hard QuartetEmmett Kelly, Stephen Malkmus, Matt Sweeney, and Jim White – are back with their first new music since releasing their great debut album in October, a two-track digital single that’s out now. “Lies (Something You Can Do)” is an Emmett Kelly-led number that was recorded in July, while “Coreopsis Trail” dates from the album sessions.

“‘Lies (Something You Can Do)’ is a credo that states that one must NOT only be a complete dick in the quest for modern survival,” says Kelly. “I guess ‘Coreopsis Trail’ is a reflection of this phenomenon,” he adds. “On morning runs, excessive cellular oxygenation permits a natural euphoria akin to a glandular spasm famously described as a ‘micro death.’ Similar results can be achieved by the murder of one’s ego, mental disorder, and/or the ill-advised usage of drugs.”

You can watch the impressive, Etch A Sketch aided music video by pro skater Kevin Spanky Long, and listen to “Coreopsis Trail” below.

The Hard Quartet will hit the road in just a couple weeks, and play Brookyn’s Warsaw on March 28 with Sharp Pins and Loosey. All dates are listed below.
