The Fiery Furnaces have announced a vinyl reissue of their ambitious, acclaimed 2004 album Blueberry Boat that is out October 10 via Everything Nice. It’s limited to 500 hand-numbered copies and comes in a gatefold tip-on jacket with new artwork and printed innersleeves.
The Blueberry Boat reissue also has a bonus track, “Far Away,” which was written specifically for a 2003 show at NYC’s Mercury Lounge and performed live only once. “I liked the idea of writing a special song for each show, but that was the only time we ever did it,” says the band’s Matthew Friedberger. “In the end we decided to not put it on the album. I’d thought it would fit because it didn’t. It turned out it just didn’t. I told myself that the songs on Blueberry Boat are about working and not working, as opposed to loving and not loving.” The song was later reworked as “Waiting to Know” on Bitter Tea. The Fiery Furnaces have live dates as a duo lined up this fall, including Kingston, NY’s 0+ Festival on October 10, which also features sets from Kool Keith, Rachel Yamagata, Wild Pink, Domino Kirke, and more. Fiery Furnaces also play Brooklyn’s National Sawdust on October 25 with Jonathan Schenke. They’ve also got shows in London and Brussels ahead of their appearance at Utrecht’s Le Guess Who? festival.
