Proggy UK trio Plantoid have announced a new album, Flare, which will be out January 30 via Bella Union. Like their debut, Terrapath, this was produced by Nathan Ridley, who also frequently plays with the band live.
“While making FLARE, we did knowingly acknowledge that our sound had been very erratic,” says drummer Louis Bradshaw. “We never stayed on anything for too long. Before going into writing this album we wanted to slightly redefine what we were doing—it’s less directly proggy. It strays from that sound a bit, while retaining that character.”
The six-minute “Dozer” is the album’s first single and highlights the precision interplay between Bradshaw, guitarist Chloe Spence and lead guitarist Tom Coyne, while taking things more into math-rock territory. They say: “Dozer embodies the feeling of trying to find comfort amongst all the noise in the world. It’s about wanting to rest when needed without any feelings of guilt that may accompany that. Inspired by the motorik pulse of 70’s Krautrock. It’s a repetitive groove which twists and turns as it evolves, constricts and contracts.” Watch the video below.
