LA-based duo Pearl & The Oysters have announced a new album, Planet Pearl, which will be out September 20 via Stones Throw. The band produced it with Teo Halm (Rosalía, J Balvin) and it features contributions from Alex Brettin (Mild High Club), Brijean Murphy, and more.
As the title implies, Planet Pearl is a bit of an extraterrestrial affair, “written from the perspective of castaway space explorers marooned on Earth.” The first single is “Big Time,” which sonically owes a lot of ’70s and ’80s yacht rock, while the video pays homage to John Carpenter’s classic sci-fi action film They Live.
“It’s our version of an LA-centric mini-musical,” says director Nikki Milan Houston of the video. “It showcases the inhabitants of Planet Pearl as they pose for their own kind of postcard.” Watch the video below.
Pearl & The Oysters will be on tour this fall starting at Brooklyn’s Elsewhere Zone One on October 16 with klark sound. Tickets for all dates go on sale Friday, August 2 at 10 AM local time. Check out their tour schedule below.
