The NYC Mayoral race is kicking into high gear and Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani will have a tough battle ahead against Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa, and current mayor Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo (who Zohran beat in the Democratic primary) who are both running as independents. Around the time of the primary, Mamdani got a lot of support from NYC’s indie music community and that’s happening again.There are four upcoming benefit rallies at independent music venues around the five boroughs with good lineups:
- August 24 @ Union Pool with Lowertown, Venus Twins, Lexie, and Kolb
- August 25 @ TV Eye with Gift, Brutus VIII, Sweet Baby Jesus, and Liam Kazar
- September 1 @ Night Club 101 with Palehound, Katy Kirby, S.3.R., Kierst, Sofia Wolfson, Tracey Nelson, and thanks for coming (Water From Your Eyes’ Rachel Brown); hosted by Will Menaker
- September 3 @ Honey’s with Christian Lee Hutson, Wild Pink, Diamond Grinder, and rooftop DJs
All proceeds from these rallies will be split between New Yorkers for Lower Costs, NYC Migrant Solidarity, and the Sameer Project. Check out the poster for the rallies below.
