The Miki Berenyi Trio, the current group led by Lush‘s Miki Berenyi and also featuring her partner KJ “Moose” McKillop (of fellow shoegaze OGs Moose) and Oliver Cherer, will be on tour in North America in October with Raincoats‘ Gina Birch along for the ride, and making an appealing double bill. All dates are listed below.
There are a few announcements regarding the tour, some happy, some bittersweet: Firstly, unlike MB3’s 2024 tour, Moose (who as a rule doesn’t fly) will be joining them. But it will also be the last time the group will visit North America. Miki says: “Moose is breaking his no-fly embargo so gig-goers will get to enjoy the full and proper Trio. I’m sad to say that the costs involved in touring Stateside have become crippling for smaller bands like us, so this will be our last ever outing in North America. I wish we could have covered more cities, but I’m incredibly grateful to the many fans who have messaged on my socials to say they will make the journey to see us play. We’ll be sure to include a bunch of Lush tracks in the set as a last hurrah and a thank you to long-time fans.”
The Brooklyn stop on the tour is Music Hall of Williamsburg on October 11.
For fans of Moose, MB3 covered their single “Suzanne” on the 2024 tour, so maybe they’ll let him sing one or two this time around? Moose’s only US tour was with Cocteau Twins in 1994.
Meanwhile, Miki Berenyi Trio also released a new single in support of the upcoming tour. Like this year’s album Tripla, “Doldrum Days” is widescreen dreampop, filled with Miki’s signature atmospherics and harmonies. “The lyric is about the spaces between places where interesting things can happen,” says bassist Oliver Cherer. “The scenario is borrowed from Erskine Childers’ novel The Riddle of the Sands, but really it’s about being lost, stranded, unmotivated and bored, and what a potentially fertile or dangerous place that can be.” Watch the video below.
In related news, Lush’s Gala compilation is getting a deluxe 35th anniversary reissue.
