Like she did in Chicago earlier this month, Maren Morris will play an intimate NYC show in less than two weeks, in celebration of her new two-song single The Bridge. It goes down at Bowery Ballroom on November 6.
It’s part of her ‘The Bridge Shows’ series, which you have to join her Lunatics Fan Club to attend. Members have to be signed up before Thursday (10/26) at 11:59 PM ET to receive a code on Friday morning, and tickets go on sale Friday (10/27) at 10 AM. Joining the fan club does not guarantee tickets.
Maren recently said in an interview with LA Times that she’s taking a “step back” from country music “because of what she views as the country music industry’s unwillingness to honestly reckon with its history of racism and misogyny and to open its gates to more women and queer people and people of color.”
“I thought I’d like to burn it to the ground and start over,” she says, “but it’s burning itself down without my help.”
“The stories going on within country music right now, I’ve tried to avoid a lot of it at all costs,” she said. “I feel very, very distanced from it.”
“Obviously, being one of the few women that had any success on country radio, everything you do is looked at under a microscope,” she continues. “You’re scrutinized more than your male peers, even when you’re doing well. So I’ve had to clear all of that out of my head this year and just write songs.”
“After the Trump years, people’s biases were on full display,” she added. “It just revealed who people really were and that they were proud to be misogynistic and racist and homophobic and transphobic. All these things were being celebrated, and it was weirdly dovetailing with this hyper-masculine branch of country music. I call it butt rock.”
