Manchester, UK-based band Mandy, Indiana have signed to Sacred Bones and have announced their first album for the label, URGH, which will be out February 6. It was co-produced by the band’s Scott Fair and Daniel Fox of Gilla Band, and it features billy woods on a track, “Sicko!”
Mandy, Indiana don’t seem to have mellowed since releasing their striking, intense debut album nearly three years ago, at least judging by the pounding, visceral “Magazine,” which comes from a very personal place.
“‘Magazine’ is the expression of the frustration and deep-seated violence I felt while attempting to recover from being raped,” vocalist Valentine Caulfield says. “Just like most victims of sexual assault, I will never get justice, and just like most perpetrators, my attacker will never be punished. My therapist encouraged me to channel my anger into something productive, so here it is: my primal, screaming call for retribution. It is the only way I will ever get to say to my rapist: you hurt me, so I’m going to hurt you.”
