listen to Boston indie rockers Rye Pines’ new EP

Rye Pines

Indie rock duo Rye Pines hail from the growing Boston scene that has also given us bands like Krill, Pile and Kal Marks. They sing similarly to those bands, and probably dig some of the same stuff (like Modest Mouse and Built to Spill), but Rye Pines move beyond being a re-creation of their peers and influences. Their upcoming EP, Dead Ocean (due next week on Bob Records), is pretty ambitious for a band that just formed a few years ago. It’s constantly shifting dynamically, and it’s as strong on the eight-minute psych sprawler “Drone Tone” as it is on the under-two-minute punk blast “Pessimist.” A full stream premieres in this post and can be listened to below.
