Inauguration Day is next Monday (1/20) and if you have no interest in or need distracted from the actual event, in NYC that afternoon there will be an “Anti-Inaugural Event” at St. Mark’s Church in the East Village from noon – 5:30 PM and will feature readers will taking turns reading the 133 sections of “The Descent of Alette,” Alice Notley’s “epic visionary poem about a woman who confronts and finally defeats ‘The Tyrant.’” In addition to the readings, there will also be music and dance interludes.
The event is presented by Bob Holman, Patricia Parker and Marc Ribot and among those scheduled to participate are Yo La Tengo, Lenny Kaye, Laurie Anderson, Anne Waldman, Kathleen Chalfont, William Parker, Katrina Vanden Heuval, Jawole Zollar (Urban Bushwomen), Bob Holman, Joan Jonas, and more TBA.
