Kurt Vile is celebrating the season with a new video for his rendition of “Must Be Santa,” from his 2023 Back to Moon Beach EP. It’s a true family affair; he made it with his brother Sam (who also plays Santa) and his daughters sing backup. The full credits include Jelloman Vile as Dasher, Awilda Vile as Dancer, Delphine Vile as a Christmas Elf, Koda Vile as Prancer, and Jeralyn Vile as Vixen. Watch below.
“Our ‘Must be Santa’ video is now up on YouTube!,” Kurt says. “We put this video out last year at, like, 5pm on Christmas evening (only on my Insta G). This vid was made by my brother Sam and me (but mostly Sam) in 2023 …and rescued later that year by Josh Walker (who shot the additional Philly footage of us a few days before Christmas… and then he final edited the video on Christmas Eve and a lil on Christmas Day, too, haha). ‘Must be Santa’ is available on last year’s Back to Moon Beach EP (thanks, Bob Dylan!) Happy holidaze!”
Kurt is also playing a pair of solo benefit shows at Philadelphia’s Johnny Brenda’s on January 18, at 5 PM and 9 PM. They’ll benefit the Natural Creativity Center in Germantown, and he’ll be joined by Mike Polizze. The late show is sold out, but tickets for the early show go on sale Friday, December 6 at 10 AM ET.
