Swiss krauty/tropicalia groovers Klaus Johann Grobe have a new single due out December 4 on Trouble in Mind. Technically, both songs on this 7″ were songs from the same sessions that gave us 2014’s fantastic Im Sinne der Zeit (one of my favorite LPs of that year that I still listen to constantly). The guys, however, went back and rerecorded parts and generally spiffed things up. The A-side, “Baby Lass Uns Sein” (“Baby, Let’s Be” in English), is on the more mellow bachelor pad side, but still has that killer rhythm section in the drivers seat, with lots of their signature organ/synthwork filling in the outline. That song premieres in this post — listen below.
Meanwhile, the band are wrapping up work on their new album and offer up an update from the studio:
the album recording was and is going fine. just doing some additional small stuff before we go and mix the whole thing. it was seven days of recording, talking, writing, arranging and trying out silly ideas. we tried to stick to one drum, bass and organ sound for the whole album so it all went pretty smoothly in the end. the only problem we had to deal with was our weakness for «stupid» stuff. you know, after we recorded the flute, all we wanted to do on the remaining days was recording the flute. we wanted it to be everywhere! same with the cowbell, the kitschy string synth or the lousy tom breaks. it’s all brilliant of course, but we learned one thing, don’t force the cheesiness, you have to let it happen!
We’ll see how much flute and cowbell actually make it onto the new album. Additionally, word is KJG will finally be heading to North America for live shows in 2016. Stay tuned. They do have some European dates in December and all are listed, along with streams of the new single and Im Sinne der Zeit, below…
