Asheville, NC emo band Kerosene Heights have signed to SideOneDummy and they just released their first single for the label, “Waste My Time.” Produced by Billy Mannino (Oso Oso, Prince Daddy & the Hyena, etc), it’s the sharpest-sounding Kerosene Heights song yet, and makes good on the promise of their recent split with Swiss Army Wife. Their two songs on that split made me say that Kerosene Heights are on a trajectory that reminds me of the jump You Blew It! made between Grow Up, Dude and Keep Doing What You’re Doing, and “Waste My Time” only strengthens that belief. Another way of putting this: it’s been a minute since I’ve heard a band do mathy Midwest emo as clear, punchy, and hook-driven as Kerosene Heights are doing it.
About this song, singer/guitarist Chance Smith says:
“Waste My Time” is about people drifting apart. In my case, it’s about how music can be so consuming that I have trouble maintaining friendships that aren’t directly tied to it. On tour I feel like I have friends but at home I spend most of my time by myself. “Will you waste my time?” is me begging someone to hang out and do something that my music sided brain would view as a waste of time.
Kerosene Heights also have upcoming tours with Equipment & Summerbruise, Dikembe & Swiss Army Wife, and Michael Cera Palin & Newgrounds Death Rugby. That includes Equipment and Summerbruise’s Brooklyn show on June 24 at The Broadway which also includes Long Island’s Oolong and New Jersey’s Fox Teeth. All dates are listed below.
