Massachusetts singer/songwriter Julie Rhodes released her debut album Bound to Meet the Devil in 2016, and she’s been gaining more and more buzz for it since its release. She’s got a sound that’s part country and part soul, and, perhaps surprisingly, she cites seeing prog/punk/ska band RX Bandits “probably 40 times” as a core influence. “This is something that always haunts me when doing interviews. Everyone expects you to be into roots music since birth,” Julie told PopMatters.
The album closes with the gorgeous, haunting song “End of the Line,” and we’re premiering the video for that song in this post. It was directed by Zack Richard/Sleep Walk Films. Watch it and stream the whole album below.
Julie plays a hometown-area video release party in Cambridge tonight (2/14), and then her tour continues, hitting NYC’s Berlin on Thursday (2/15) with Matthew Stubbs & The Antiguas and Rockwood Music Hall on April 3, as part of the Communion residency. All dates are listed below.
