Guitar great Julian Lage has announced a new album, Speak to Me, which will be out March 1 via Blue Note. It was produced by Joe Henry and features his trio collaborators Jorge Roeder (bass) and Dave King (drums), as well keyboardists Kris Davis and Patrick Warren, and Joe’s son, Levon Henry, on woodwinds.
“Throughout my life, I’ve always responded to music that has a narrative quality to it,” Lage says of the new album and its relationship to previous ones. “I believe there is a kind of connective tissue that music has, and it’s important, and it’s fun to cultivate.” You can listen to two songs off the album, “76” and “As It Were,” below.
Julian will tour for Speak to Me starting in March, including a stop at NYC’s Town Hall on 3/22 and Knoxville’s Big Ears Festival. He’s in San Francisco this weekend for SF Jazz (four shows) and plays Portland’s PDX Jazz Festival in February.
