Last year, Jesse Malin released two new albums, New York Before the War and Outsiders. The latter includes the song “Whitestone City Limits,” and a new video for that song premieres in this post. About the song, Jesse says, “I wrote this song fooling around at a soundcheck in Memphis after hearing an old Ike and Tina tune [“Nutbush City Limits”] covered by AC/DC (with Brian Johnson not Axl :)) I’ve always loved songs about leaving. I also felt I needed a little Chuck Berry in there, without the cameras in the toilets.” Check it out below.
Jesse has other stuff coming up too. He’s giving an expanded 2xCD/2xLP reissue to his 2004 sophomore album, The Heat, on July 29 via One Little Indian (pre-order). He’s also performing his 2003 debut album, The Fine Art of Self-Destruction, in full at NYC’s City Winery on June 17. There’s an early show which is sold out, and a late show which is still on sale. His only other solo shows are in the UK (all dates are listed below).
Also as previously mentioned, Jesse’s old band D Generation are back with their “classic” lineup — Jesse with with Danny Sage, Howie Pyro, Michael Wildwood and Richard Bacchus — and they’re releasing their new album Nothing is Anywhere on July 29 via Bastard Basement Records. They’ll play a release show on July 30 at Irving Plaza with Biters and Jeremy and The Harlequins. Tickets for that show are on sale.
