Jejune recently joined the many ’90s emo bands that have had their classic work remastered and reissued via Numero Group, and now they’re also coming back for shows! They just announced three Japan shows for February with veteran ambient musician The Album Leaf and another long-defunct ’90s emo band, Ethel Meserve. Get tickets and more info on those shows here.
If you’re unfamiliar with Jejune, here’s a bit about their backstory that Numero Group posted when they signed the band earlier this year:
Formed at Berklee in 1996 and later relocating to San Diego, Jejune burned bright through the golden era of ’90s emo as melodic outsiders threading pop sensibility through post-hardcore sincerity. Across releases like Junk and This Afternoon’s Malady, they helped define the second wave of emo: hook-heavy, heart-on-sleeve, and never afraid to let a song breathe. As evidenced from YouTube comments to niche Discord discussions and obscure Subreddit threads, their influence runs deep, though their name has often been typed as whisper more than shouted in all caps. Let’s change that now.
No word yet on Jejune (or Ethel Meserve for that matter) playing any US shows, but hopefully playing Japan means they’ll play their home turf as well. Will we see any or all of these bands at Best Friends Forever 2026? Stay tuned to find out.
