Nashville musician JD McPherson has announced Nite Owls, his first album in six years, which will be out September 27 via New West. The record finds him expanding his sonic palette beyond rootsy early rock n’ roll into glam, new wave and alt-rock. “There’s no saxophone this time, there’s no r&b piano, but it’s a rock ‘n’ roll record,” McPherson says of Nite Owls. “To me, it’s the next logical step from my last one, Undivided Heart & Soul.”
McPherson adds, “To me, the thread between Duane Eddy (whom the album is dedicated) and Depeche Mode is that single-note, reverb-y guitar style. So it felt natural to blend that kind of big-string guitar thing with the classic stuff and a dash of surf. It made sense.”

You can catch McPherson on tour in August opening for Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, and then in the fall he’ll be out on his own headlining tour which includes a NYC show at Bowery Ballroom on October 4 with Kate Clover.
