Jane Inc, aka Toronto art pop musician Carlyn Bezic (U.S. Girls, Ice Cream), has announced her third album A RUPTURE A CANYON A BIRTH, which will be out October 17 via Telephone Explosion. She co-produced it with Edwin de Goeij (U.S. Girls, Martha Wainwright).
A lot has happened since Bezic released 2022’s Faster Than I Can Take. She survived a car crash while on tour with U.S. Girls, a break-up, and a stage one cancer diagnosis on her left vocal cord (her voice is intact after two successful surgeries). These things all inspired the songs on the new album, including the bouncy, synthy first single, “elastic.”
Bezic says the experience of performing not long after the car accident “unlocked something for me, and I felt I could perform with more freedom and abandon than ever before. Here I imagine the audience as a lover, and under their gaze, life is filled with pure Dionysian possibility: an unrolling and malleable series of nows.”
