First he gave it out for free in a plain white jacket at Third Man record stores, then he put finished copies for sale at the merch table of his intimate shows in Nashville, Atlanta and Athens. Now Jack White has officially officially announced his new solo album No Name, which will be out for everyone to buy this week. You can pick it up on limited edition blue vinyl at Third Man stores (Nashville, Detroit, London) on Thursday and then at select indie retailers on Friday, August 2. It will also be out digitally on Friday and and available for black vinyl preorder.
No Name is a return to White’s striped roots as Andrew noted in his Notable Releases review: “Whether or not it is in fact his best, it’s undeniably his most White Stripes-y album since The White Stripes. These are raw, blistering garage rock/punk/blues hybrids that sound more like the Jack White who made “Fell In Love With A Girl” than the Jack White who made ‘Lazaretto.’ And if you’re wondering if Jack White can still fuck shit up like he did when The White Stripes played Letterman, all signs point to yes.”
Jack and his solo band play one more smaller club show tonight at Atlanta’s Terminal West before a few festival appearances, at some of which (Øyafestivalen, Way Out West, Syd for Solen) they are replacing Queens of the Stone Age (Josh Homme is recovering from surgery).
