Politically charged, post-punk influenced Irish band M(h)aol signed to Merge after the label caught their set at SXSW in 2023. Merge re-released the band’s debut album, Attachment Styles, in the US later that year and then new single “Pursuit” in February of this year. The band are now back with a new single and the announcement of a few US shows surrounding their appearance at SXSW 2025.
“‘Snare’ is about countless conversations I’ve had since my first drum lesson on my ninth birthday about how bizarre it is that I play that instrument, or how I should be doing it differently,” says lead vocalist and drummer Constance Keane of this syncopated, dancey-but-droney song. “The idea of society gendering an inanimate object like a drum kit, when it’s something that brings me so much joy and release, has always frustrated me hugely, and I thought it was time to sing about it.” Watch the video below.
M(h)aol will play NYC’s TV Eye on March 9 before heading to Austin, and then after SXSW will play Los Angeles and Seattle. All dates are below.
