Dundalk, Ireland’s The Mary Wallopers have announced a North American tour in continued support of their 2023 album Irish Rock N’ Roll. The tour begins in Brooklyn at Warsaw on April 19 and from there heads to Boston, Toronto, Cleveland, Columbus, Chicago, Vancouver, Seattle and Berkely, CA. Tickets for all shows go on sale Friday, January 19 at 10 AM local time and all dates are listed below.
The Mary Wallopers make traditional Irish music but follow in the rabble-rousing, nose-thumbing footsteps of The Pogues. Irish Rock N’ Roll made the Top 10 list of Irish group Kneecap who wrote, “We love the Wallopers and this album is another cracker from them. Their first studio work with their own songs (‘Gates of heaven’ our favourite), this is a seminal Irish album. Kicking out at all the right people – the church, racists, power and landlords the Wallopers are a very special band.” Listen to the album below.
The band rang in 2024 as part of Jools Holland’s annual Hootenanny BBC special and they paid tribute to the late Shane MacGowan by covering The Pogues’ “Streams Of Whisky” where they were joined by The Pogues’ Spider Stacy. Watch that below as well.
