Nordic art/electo-pop artist ionnalee has announced a new album, Close Your Eyes, due out June 21 via TWIMC. She made it with regular collaborator Claes Björklund, and says, “this album is about how to dream in a dark time and how to be someone like me, an artist who feeds off of that ability for a living. How to get to a state of hopefulness, euphoria, sorrow in a time where the world seems less and less connected to other humans, to nature and to our future. How I find music, when made from the heart, still after working as an artist for 20 years, is a core element in my life. How crooked the view is of music’s value when it’s soundtracking our daily lives and can get us through the toughest of times.” You can hear the first single, the sparkling “innocence of sound,” below.
A “twin” album, Blund, will come out alongside Close Your Eyes, featuring its songs in Swedish. “I recently moved out of Stockholm back to the area where I grew up in Östergötland,” ionnalee says. “I’ve begun converting this old farmhouse into a studio. Singing in my mother tongue gives my artistry a different angle and that feels really exciting – it’s like exploring a new language!”
ionnalee has also announced a spring US tour, beginning on May 17 in Philadelphia and running through June 7 in Portland. See all dates below.
The NYC show is on May 18 at Warsaw. Tickets to all dates go on sale Wednesday, March 27 at 10 AM local.
