Horsegirl have announced their second album, Phonetics On and On, which will be out February 14 via Matador. It was produced by Cate Le Bon and recorded at Wilco’s The Loft studio in Chicago in January 2024. From Matador’s info on the album: “What if instead of filling out songs with distortion, they utilized the expanse that the three of them didn’t occupy? This question seems to be the motivating force behind the record.”
The first single from the album is “2468,” which is very clearly a Horsegirl song but does reflect an airier side to the band that we haven’t heard before, with some nicely droning violin running through it. You can watch the video, directed by Eliza Callahan and choreographed by Alexa West, below.
Horsegirl have announced an East Coast Tour with Free Range that happens in March, starting in Philly and hitting DC, Raleigh, Richmond, Hamden, Somerville, Woodstock (Bearsville Theatre on 3/28) and Brooklyn (Warsaw on 3/29).
