Her Head’s On Fire, the band fronted by Sid Jagger aka Joseph Grillo (of Garrison, Gay For Johnny Depp, etc) that also includes members of Saves The Day, Small Brown Bike, and more, will follow their 2022 debut LP College Rock & Clove Cigarettes with their sophomore album Strange Desires on July 19 via Iodine Recordings (pre-order).
“While the first album was the band getting to know each other’s musical tendencies, I believe the new album is a crystallization of our shared vision, brought into focus by John Agnello’s expert mixing,” says Joseph. “The guitars are still ferocious, but the rhythm section finds better footing, with almost Fugazi leanings. These are the most realized melodies I have been able to write thus far, but most of these songs were written within about 10 minutes. The band’s existence has always been somewhat effortless. I hope that can be heard here. It’s loud, fun, and cathartic.”
They recently released lead single “Why Are We Alone,” and we’re now premiering second single “Aren’t I The Champion.” Both songs have big, breezy ’90s alt-rock / power pop vibes (this is, after all, a band who has covered early Goo Goo Dolls), but with the flair of a band whose members have a long history with heavier post-hardcore stuff too. Of the new song, Joseph says: “We spend so much of our lives battling with others based on a foundational lack of communication and understanding. If we cannot empathize and extend olive branches we keep repeating the same patterns of anger and loss with one another. I think if it wasn’t for my cynicism and inherent goth tendencies I’d probably be a hippie.” Listen below.

The Heaven Can Wait show is also with Latewaves and the Gold Sounds show is also with Something Bitter and Velvet Vaughan.
