Gillian Welch & David Rawlings have announced their 10th album together, Woodland, which will be out August 23 via Acony Records. The album was named for their Woodland Studio in Nashville. “Woodland is at the heart of everything we do, and has been for the last twenty some years,” the duo say. “The past four years were spent almost entirely within its walls, bringing it back to life after the 2020 tornado and making this record. The music is (songs are) a swirl of contradictions, emptiness, fullness, joy, grief, destruction, permanence. Now.”

Gillian and David will be on a short Northeast tour starting next week for a few dates ahead of their appearance at Newport Folk Festival. They’ve also announced a fall tour that includes shows in Atlanta, Knoxville, Cincinnati, Detroit, Pittsburgh and more. There are two NYC-area shows: Kingston’s Ulster Performing Arts Center on November 30 and Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre on December 5.
