Font announce debut album, touring with Yard Act (hear “Hey Kekulé”)

Austin band Font have announced their debut album, Strange Burden, which will be out July 12 via Acrophase Records. Check out the artwork and tracklist below.

The album includes Font’s first two singles, “It” and “Sentence 1” and they’ve just released new single “Hey Kekulé,” which references Cormac McCarthy lyrically while musically owing more than a little to the early-’90s manchester rave scene and early-’00s Williamsburg. “As with the other songs on the record, there is no intentional meaning to the symbols, references, phrases, and images I use,” says frontperson Thom Waddill. “I’m not trying to ‘say’ anything about the subconscious – I’m only trying to channel it. And a big reason why I could do that here was because it was one of the first songs where the five-part machine of the band really began to whirr – I had a hand in almost none of the music for the song. The beat, the piano part, all of it came from the band, and because it was a truly foreign container, I could simply release and respond.”

You can watch the video, directed by Blake Nelson with the band, below.

You may have seen Font open for CHAI, bar italia or Water From Your Eyes last year (or caught them during SXSW in March), and they’ll soon be out with Yard Act on the West Coast. All dates are listed below.
