Florist have released a new single, “This Was A Gift,” their first proper single since their self-titled 2022 album (which also follows their track for the I Saw the TV Glow soundtrack). It’s an earthy indie folk song that reminds me a little of Big Thief, and that singer/guitarist Emily Sprague says is “about enduring difficult seasons of life with the people that we keep close. It is a musical push and pull that mirrors and describes the process of becoming vulnerable to heartbreak and loss that leads to the acceptance of eventual endings and appreciation of community. The band developed and grew with this song over the course of two years of live touring before committing it to recording, further deepening the roots of its meaning.” Listen below.
Florist also have tour dates coming up, including a four-show residency in Ridgewood, Queens on November 10, 11, 12, and 13 at Cassette (68-38 Forest Ave). Night one’s opener is TBA, night two is with h. pruz, night three is with Alena Spanger, and night four is with Bobbie. Tickets are on sale now.
