Finnoguns Wake, the new band featuring from former Royal Headache frontman Tim “Shogun” Wall, have announced their debut EP, Stay Young, which will be out January 26 via What’s Your Rupture.
The group also features Finn Berzin, who trades off lead vocal duties with Shogun. (The name of the band is a portmanteau of their names, as well as a nod to James Joyce.) Despite being decades apart in age, the two bonded over music — from Husker Du to Oasis — and they began writing songs together. On the EP they are backed by Royal Headache keyboardist Gabrielle De Giorgio, bassist Campbell Troy (who was in Shogun’s mid-’90s band Nintendo Police), and DMA’s drummer Liam Hoskins. This is their second release, following a single in 2022.
The EP’s opening song is “Blue Skies,” a soaring, roaring anthem that is a little more rock than Royal Headache, falling almost into Guided by Voices territory, with Shogun’s unmistakable vocals sounding especially good in this setting. It’s terrific and you can listen to that below.
Finnoguns Wake only have one show lined up at the moment, celebrating the EP’s release on December 2 at Enmore Hotel in Sydney, Australia.

Stay Young:
1. Blue Skies
2. So Nice
3. Lovers All
4. Strawberry Avalanche
