Elvis Costello keeps a lot of irons in the fire and regularly mixes it up on tour. In early 2025 he’ll be out with Attractions/Imposters keyboardist Steve Nieve as a duo, and now he’s announced that he’ll be back out this summer for another tour: “Radio Soul!: The Early Songs of Elvis Costello” featuring The Imposters (Nieve, fellow Attractions alumn Pete Thomas, and Davey Faragher) and guitarist Charlie Sexton. Setlists will draw from 1977 through 1986 (My Aim is True through Blood and Chocolate).
“For any songwriter, it has to be a compliment if people want to hear songs written up to fifty years ago,” Elvis says regarding this tour and its name. “Among them, ‘Radio Soul,’ the first draft of what eventually became “Radio Radio.” As for why he’s focusing on his early years with The Attractions, he says, “You can expect the unexpected and the faithful in equal measure. Don’t forget this show is ‘Performed by Elvis Costello & The Imposters,’ an ensemble which includes three people who first recorded this music and two more who bring something entirely new. They are nobody’s tribute band.”
Dates kick off in Seattle on June 12 and hit Portland, Reno, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Nashville, and more before wrapping up in Miami Beach on July 12. Tickets go on sale Friday, December 13 at 10 AM local time.
There’s currently no NYC-area date for the Radio Soul! tour but he has a few for his duo tour with Steve Nieve: Montclair’s Wellmont Theatre on 2/24, Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre on 2/27, and Woodstock’s Bearsville Theater on 3/4 and 3/5.
