Montreal band Duchess Says‘ new album, Sciences Nouvelles, is due out October 14 via Bonsound in Canada and Slovenly Recordings in the rest of the world. (Pre-orders are available now.) The band have just shared the second single off the record, “I Repeat Myself,” a very catchy synthpunk/new wave nugget that finds frontperson Annie-Claude Deschenes doing something she doesn’t do that often — singing in English. (Usually its en francias or guttural screams.) You can listen to that, and previous single “Negative Thoughts,” below.
The real way to experience Duchess Says is to see them live, where Annie-Claude holds court like it’s the last day on earth. You never know what you’re gonna get but you’re never going to be bored (or allowed to just stand there). They’ll be on tour this fall, including U.S. shows with Future Punx which is a great double bill. There will be two NYC shows: Shea Stadium on October 14 with Future Punx and Operator, and then Elvis Guesthouse on October 15 (no opener listed). Having seen Duchess Says many times, I’m trying to imagine how the Elvis Guesthouse show won’t be total insanity. Not to be missed! Tickets for both shows are on sale now.
