Montreal maelstrom synthpunks Duchess Says are putting the finishing touches on their new album Sciences Nouvelles which will be out in October via Bonsound in Canada and Slovenly in the rest of the world. They produced the album themselves in their new MTL HQ. The first single from the album is “Negative Thoughts,” a six-minute thunderstorm that builds slowly before unleashing torrents of distorted guitars, crashing drums, sirens, and the dynamo that is singer Annie-Claude Deschenes. You can almost hear her whipping a crowd into a frenzy. That song premieres in this post:
The best way to experience Duchess Says is live, where Annie-Claude’s powers become instantly apparent. (No two shows are alike, apart from being memorable and generally crazy.) They’re about to tour Canada, including a headlining slot at the BrooklynVegan/M for Montreal showcase at Canadian Music Week in Toronto. Let’s hope they dip down into the U.S. soon.
