deary announce debut album, share “Seabird”

We’ve been following UK shoegazers deary since they formed during the pandemic. After a few singles and EPs on Sonic Cathedral, they’ve signed to Bella Union, the label run by Cocteau Twins’ Simon Raymonde, and have now announced their debut album. It’s titled Birding and will be out April 3. They produced it themselves with frequent collaborator Iggy B.

“With the album, we’ve grown up so much,” says singer/guitarist Dottie. “Harry [Catchpole, drummer] joined last year, and we’re a little bit of a family now, and we really understand each other. I remember us being in the studio, we were looking through some demos for this record, and I turned to Ben, and said, ‘I think we actually need to decide what we want deary to sound like and not follow these roadmaps. We need to think a bit more decisively about these songs and be really sure that we know where we want them to go.’ Adds guitarist Ben Easton, “Our last EP was us trying to be deary and this album is us being deary.”

The first single from the album is “Seabird,” a gorgeous cloud of ethereal dreampop, and you can watch the video below.
