Citizen’s Mat Kerekes releasing new LP, announces tour with Equipment & Bike Routes

Citizen vocalist Mat Kerekes is also a prolific solo artist, and his next solo album To Dream of Something Wicked comes out October 18 via Wax Bodega (pre-order). The album was written after Mat moved back to his native Toledo, OH, and two of his family members played a role in its creation; his uncle played guitar, bass, and melodica, and his brother Chris acted as a songwriting partner.

“As I get older, I keep asking myself how much longer I can do this,” Mat says. “How much longer do I want to be on the road? How much more can I grow? I don’t want to say this record is my last one or a goodbye – it’s definitely not – but in this weird way, that’s what it feels like to me. I wanted it to feel like turning the chapter in a storybook, the end of an era, whatever that might turn out to be.”

Mat also just announced a headlining 2025 tour behind the album, with support from fellow Ohioans Equipment and NJ’s Bike Routes. There’s a Brooklyn show on January 21 at Baby’s All Right, and tickets for the tour go on presale to Mat’s Discord members today (10/8). The general public on-sale begins Wednesday (10/9) at noon. All dates are listed on the tour poster below.

Two singles from the new album are out now, “Motorbike” and “Figure Eights,” and they both find Mat leaning into his more breezy indie rock tendencies–something he does very well. Check out the videos for both below as well.

Equipment are also opening part of Cloud Nothings’ Here and Nowhere Else 10th anniversary tour this fall, and they recently put out a new single, “Tequila Redbull,” following last year’s great Alt. Account.

Bike Routes are releasing a new EP, Rush of Energy, on October 25 via Blue Grape Music, and you can hear two tracks from that below.
