Christian Lee Hutson has announced new album, Paradise Pop. 10, that’s due out on September 27 via ANTI- Records. It follows 2022’s great Quitters, and he co-produced it with three regular collaborators, Phoebe Bridgers, Marshall Vore, and Joseph Lorge. Phoebe also has guest vocals to the album, as do Katy Kirby and Maya Hawke (whose new album Chaos Angel Hutson produced and co-wrote). See the cover art and tracklist below.
“I wanted to make an eyes up record,” Hutson, who moved to NYC, says. “A looking forward record.” He continues, “Sometimes when you live somewhere for a really long time, the place starts to feel like a memory graveyard. Every corner becomes kind of haunted in a way, kind of dragging you out of the present. That’s what LA became like for me. Spending so much time revisiting all these emotional landmarks ended up giving me the feeling that I was missing my life. Like it was passing me while I was looking the other way…. It felt really connected to the city. I would spend half my life in the car, just completely on autopilot, re-living my life, from the beginning, on repeat every day.”
He’s shared the first single, “After Hours,” a rich, folky track that finds his insightful songwriting in fine form, and features synths from Shahzad Ismaily. Watch the video, directed by Meg Ha, below.
Hutson will tour Europe in the fall, and ahead of that he’s also announced a pair of US release shows, happening on September 26 at South Pasadena Masonic Lodge in South Pasadena, and September 30 at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn.
