Krautrock icons Can are celebrating their 50th anniversary and to celebrate, Mute Records is releasing a three-vinyl-LP, career-spanning retrospective, Can: The Singles Collection, on June 16. It’s the first time their singles have been presented together and contains rare single versions of songs, some of which have never been available apart from original 7″ singles. You can listen to “Turtles Have Short Legs,” the band’s third single which never appeared on an album, and “Shikako Maru Ten” (the b-side to “Spoon”) below.
The three-disc set comes in a tri-gatefold sleeve designed by Julian House from Intro, a long time design collaborator of Can’s. That’s the packaging above and the tracklist is below. Pre-orders are available.
For fans in NYC, Mute Records is hosting “Can Night” at Williamsburg’s Spectacle Theatre on June 15 with 7:30 PM and 10 PM screenings of 1999’s Can: The Documentary, and the late show will also screen 1972’s Can: Free Concert. Admission is $5 at the door and they’ll have copies of Can: The Singles for sale.
