Brooklyn band Punchlove have been making hazy, shoegaze-y rock since the start of the 2020s. Originally a duo, Jillian Olesen and Ethan Williams turned the project into a proper band during the pandemic and are gearing up to release their debut album, Channels, on March 1 via Kanine.
We’ve got the premiere of the album’s latest single, “Guilt,” which makes for a nice introduction to the band. It’s dreamy and melodic but also packs a punch. “This track examines the vicious cycle of guilt–from the lens of anxiety; guilt emanating from a perception of wrongdoing, then further guilt arising from the people who take advantage of that feeling,” says Jillian Olesen. “When you’re a people-pleaser, people take advantage of you.” You can watch the video, directed by Avalyn Wu, below.
Punchlove celebrate their album with a hometown release show at Baby’s All Right on February 28 with High. and Weathergirl. They’ve also got a few UK dates in May and all are listed below.
