Brooklyn’s Mx Lonely are gearing up to release their Spit EP on February 6 via Boston label Candlepin Records (pre-order), and they’ve just shared its third single, “Too Many Pwr Chords,” following “Rest In Salt” and “Papercuts.” The new EP is the followup to 2022’s Cadonia, which had guitarist Jake Harms handling most of the lead vocals, but synth player Rae Haas sings most of the new songs and these bigger, cleaner-sounding recordings are also the band’s first made in a proper studio–they did at Virtue & Vice in Brooklyn with drummer/engineer Jun Yang Ng. They’ve got grungy, shoegazy vibes that kinda sound like a cross between Bully and Superheaven, and the new song lives up to its name with the stomping breakdown at the song’s coda. Mx Lonely have also announced a tour happening from late January through late February, including hometown-area stops at SUNY Purchase on January 27 with Wiring, Blouse, and Kevin Wulf; and Ridgewood, NY’s Trans-Pecos on February 23 with Velvet, Halo Bite, and Nodding Off.
