Bob Dylan is in the air lately thanks to Timothée Chalamet and A Complete Unknown, and the man himself is staying busy too. He just announced a short tour that will find him playing some smaller venues in some smaller cities than you might expect an artist of Dylan’s stature to stop at, including a show in Mankato, a smaller city in Dylan’s birth state of Minnesota, as well as stops in Tulsa, Wichita, and Green Bay. Dylan also paid tribute to Garth Hudson, the last surviving founding member of The Band, who passed away last week. “Sorry to hear the news about Garth Hudson,” he wrote. “He was a beautiful guy and the real driving force behind The Band. Just listen to the original recording of ‘The Weight’ and you’ll see.” As a member of The Band, Garth recorded with Dylan (as heard on The Basement Tapes) and also backed him on his controversial 1966 “electric” tour.
Tulsa also just hosted a big 50th anniversary tribute show for Dylan’s Blood on the Tracks last week, with Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams, Sharon Van Etten, The War on Drugs’ Adam Granduciel, and many others. Shortly before that, a Dylan auction took place in Nashville.
