Bluegrass star Billy Strings has announced So Much For Goodbyes, which will be out August 28 via Reprise. He made it with producer T. Bone Burnett (Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, the O Brother Where Art Thou? and Crazy Heart soundtracks) and it features artwork created by Strings’ late mother, Debra Apostol.
“I made this record to honor my mother,” Strings shares. “To notice and embrace this very significant period of grief in my life and make art from it. To turn my heartbreak into songs while using my guitar as a coping mechanism as I always have. It’s always been there for me to lean on through the hard times, and I figure it always will…until it’s my time to say goodbye.”
The first single from the album is the haunted “Burn the Other End,” and you can watch the video below.
Billy is on tour now and has dates through the fall. Those include Michigan’s Ionia Freak Fair where in addition to headlining, he’s booked a stage of heavy acts including Bane, Cryptopsy, and more. All dates are below.
You can also catch Billy on PBS’ Austin City Limits this week. His performance will stream live via ACL’s YouTube on Thursday, July 2 at 9 PM Eastern, and then air in edited form on PBS at a later date.
