Barry Adamson announces new album, shares “The Last Words of Sam Cooke”

Former Bad Seeds and Magazine bassist Barry Adamson has announced his 10th solo album, Cut to Black, which will be out via his own imprint on May 17. “It’s not gospel, it’s not soul, it’s not blues and it ain’t rock n’ roll,” Barry says of the album. “It’s all of ’em – and with good reason.”

The first single from the record is the cheeky “The Last Words of Sam Cook,” which recounts the pop singer’s final hours at the Haçienda Motel in South Central Los Angeles, 11 December 1964 via a swinging, ’60s-style wall-of-sound production. “Baby, you shot me!,” goes the chorus. Barry will be on tour in the UK and Europe this spring and all dates are below.
