Anthony Green (of L.S. Dunes, Circa Survive, Saosin, The Sound of Animals Fighting, and more) has been busy lately. He recently released Doom. Spun., a followup/sequel/companion album to 2022’s Boom. Done., and now he’s followed it with a new two-song single. The A-side is a gentle, folky song called “Last Summer In America,” and it comes backed with the original guitar/vocals version of “All Hours,” which appeared in glitchy electronic form on Doom. Spun. Here’s what he says about the A-side:
I was walking around Europe a lot on the recent LS Dunes tour, and I found myself singing these words in this melody. I heard somebody say the ‘last summer in America’, but referring to how they were in America last summer, past tense. I started dreaming up the idea of writing a simple folk song about how we seem to be more inclined to talk about the end of the world rather than the end of these oppressive corrupt systems that we’ve all invented or inherited and agreed to take part in. It’s a meditation on whether or not a broken system can heal itself within its own mechanisms.
It’s always great to hear Anthony in earthy, stripped-back mode, and these two songs are no exception. Listen below and pick up the 7″ here.
Anthony is also gearing up for a short West Coast tour in early September, followed by a just-announced Northeast tour in December. He’s been playing some covers on the road lately, including the cover of Title Fight’s “Numb, But I Still Feel It” that’s included on Doom. Spun. and one of Liz Phair’s “Dogs of L.A.,” and it looks like he’s working on some more. In the past week, he posted solo acoustic covers on his Instagram of Militarie Gun‘s new single “Thought You Were Waving” and Land of Talk‘s 2017 song “Spiritual Intimidation.” Will he be playing those at his upcoming shows? In between his two solo tours, L.S. Dunes will be opening Rise Against‘s tour, including the NYC show on October 22 at Brooklyn Paramount that also has support from Spiritual Cramp.
