Alkaline Trio and The Bouncing Souls are both gearing up to play one of their most classic albums at Riot Fest this weekend–2000’s Maybe I’ll Catch Fire and 2001’s How I Spent My Summer Vacation, respectively–but it’s not all about nostalgia for these two bands. They both just released new songs, coinciding with the start of the festival. Alkaline Trio released “Bleeding Out” and The Bouncing Souls released “Power,” and both songs fit right in with the classic records that they’ll be performing this weekend. They’re also both the second singles each band released this year (following “Oblivion” for Alkaline Trio and “United” for the Souls), but no new album announcements yet. Will we get those soon?
The Bouncing Souls’ new songs were both produced by Will Yip, while Alkaline Trio’s were produced by Matt Skiba’s former blink-182 bandmate Travis Barker, and they’re the band’s first songs with new drummer Atom Willard (previously of Rocket From the Crypt, Against Me!, Angels & Airwaves, and other bands). Alkaline Trio also play right before blink-182 on Riot Fest’s main stage today, and they have a few dates left on their tour together. They also headline a Riot Fest Aftershow with support from Militarie Gun.
The Bouncing Souls are on tour with H2O this year, including a current leg that also includes Smoking Popes and JER, and a December leg that also includes Dave Hause & the Mermaid and Mercy Union. All dates for both bands are listed, along with both new songs, below.
