A Place to Bury Strangers have announced their seventh album, Synthesizer, which will be out October 4 via Dedstrange. Not only is it called Synthesizer, the album actually is a synthesizer, with the vinyl album cover a circuit board for an actual functioning synth that was in turn used on the album. (You’ll need to buy the parts kit from Ackerman’s pedal company, Death by Audio.) “It’s pretty messed up, chaotic,” says APTBS frontman Oliver Ackerman of the synth. “But it feels really human.” You can watch Ackermann demonstrate the album cover synth in a video below.
The first single from the album is “Disgust,” a typically fuzzed-out blast of white noise psych. “‘Disgust’ is a song I wrote that was inspired by the way I used to perform ‘Got That Feeling,’ a song by my old band Skywave,” Ackermann says. “There was a long riding open note on the bass that enabled me to play the whole part with my fist in the air. I wrote this song just on open strings so it could be played with just one hand: dumb and fun.” The video was directed by Bodega’s Ben Hozie, and you can watch that below.
APTBS will on tour starting at the end of July, including a North American run with YHWH Nailgun. All dates are listed below.
