So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
TY SEGALL – “BUILDINGS”
Ty Segall’s fantastic new album Possession is out tomorrow and her’s one last preview. “Buildings” has real swagger, aided by some very cool string arrangements. The video by Matt Yoka (who co-wrote the song’s lyrics) is very cool.

AVA MAX – “LOVIN MYSELF”
Ava Max’s new album Don’t Click Play is due out on August 22 via Atlantic, and she’s given us a preview with yet another catchy pop single, “Lovin Myself.”

NINA (BAR ITALIA) – DISCORDIA EP
Nina Cristante of bar italia has released a solo EP as NINA, titled Discordia, which leans a little more trad-indie-rock than the more experimental song structures of the group.

BRAD MEHLDAU – “TOMORROW TOMORROW” & “BETTER BE QUIET NOW” (ELLIOTT SMITH COVERS)
Jazz pianist Brad Mehldau announced a new Elliott Smith covers album (it also features renditions of Big Star’s “Thirteen” and Nick Drake’s “Sunday” and one original track), Ride Into The Sun, due out on August 29 via Nonesuch. It features contributions from Grizzly Bear’s Daniel Rossen, Chris Thile, and Matt Chamberlain, and he’s shared two tracks from it: “Tomorrow Tomorrow” (which Rossen and Thile feature on) and “Better Be Quiet Now.”

CASE OATS – “BITTER ROOT LAKE”
Chicago band Case Oats, which includes singer-guitarist Casey Gomez Walker and drummer Spencer Tweedy, have announced their debut album, Last Missouri Exit, which will be out August 22 via Merge. “This story is dark, but I feel like it could happen to anyone in love,” says Casey of “Bitter Root Lake,” adding, “The dream gets the best of you, and suddenly you end up in an awful situation. It’s about the aftermath where it all went wrong, and longing for the road in which it went right.”

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN – “ADELITA”
Bruce Springsteen releases Tracks II: The Lost Albums next month, and the latest early taste is “Adelita” off Inyo,” a “ten-song thematic collection set throughout the border states of California and Texas (plus one detour to New Jersey).”

LORDE – “MAN OF THE YEAR”
Lorde has given us the second preview of her highly anticipated new album Virgin with “Man of the Year.” On her website, she wrote, “BIKING. SMOKING. SWIMMING. NEW STRENGTH IN MY SHOULDERS. FEELING SOMETHING AWAKENING. FIRST TAPING MY CHEST. SO SCARED TO BE HIM. THE GQ PARTY. LAYING BACK ON THE WHITE COUCH W THE MIC IN MY HAND AND LETTING IT HAPPEN. SUN. PERSIMMONS AND WALNUTS. VOCALS WITH AMS. TRYING TO MAKE IT SOUND LIKE A FONTANA, LIKE PAINTING BITTEN BY A MAN, LIKE THE NEW YORK EARTH ROOM. THE SOUND OF MY REBIRTH.”

THE CHAMELEONS – “SAVIOURS ARE A DANGEROUS THING”
This is The Chameleons, all right. New album Arctic Moon, their first in 24 years, is out in September.

QUINNIE – “PAPER DOLL”
quinnie announced her second album, paper doll, due out July 24. She’s shared the title track, and says, “I wrote ‘paper doll’ about how being idealized by a partner is fun until it isn’t. This song is the title track of my record because it encapsulates the thesis of always feeling too messed up to be loved by somebody else.”

MORN – “MODERN MAN”
Made up of two sets of siblings, Welsh quartet MORN make appealing, sooty post punk. Their debut single is out now on Speedy Wunderground.

DAISY THE GREAT – “BIRD BONES”
Daisy the Great’s new album The Rubber Teeth Talk is due out on June 27 via S-Curve, and the latest single is “Bird Bones.” “Bird Bones was written in memory of our dear friend, Stephanie Rae Shafir, who passed away Feb 26, 2023,” they say. “All of the drawings in the video are hers. Thank you to all of her family and friends who helped us collect them.”

THE HIDDEN CAMERAS – “UNDERTOW”
Toronto’s The Hidden Cameras are now based in Germany and have gone synthpop, but their melodic style remains the same.

ALEX G – “AFTERLIFE”
