So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
JAM CITY – “MY WORLD” (ft. AIDAN, BAWO & OX EYE)
UK producer Jam City will release a new album, My World, on August 21 via Mad Decent, and the title track is a funk/hip hop/dance hybrid that’s out now.

LORA MOUNA – “THE DIFFERENCE”
About her dreamy, shoegazey new single, Brooklyn-based artist Lora Mouna says, “The Difference’ is such a slow burn that builds into a euphoric, cathartic breakdown, and it truly was a labor of love from everyone who played on the track. It’s about dissociation, feeling sunken into your own repeating loop/patterns and finding indifference in it. You can hear the dissociation sonically during the outro, where every instrument feels like it’s existing in its own world but somehow they all still work together. I also pushed myself to be more experimental with my voice on this song, playing with more vocal flips, spoken word, and percussive vocal rhythms throughout it. That playfulness and curiosity with my music is what I’m leaning into, and this song is a perfect depiction of that.”

VALERIE JUNE – “SMOKESTACK”
Valerie June has announced a new EP, Brighter Blue, out September 11 via Concord. It includes some blues standards, including “Smokestack,” a revved-up electric blues reinterpretation of both “Smokestack Lightning” and “In The Pines.” “Since Howlin’ Wolf’s landmark 1956 recording, [‘Smokestack Lightning’] has been embraced by generations of artists across blues, rock, folk, psychedelia, and grunge,” Valerie says. “Inspired by that tradition of reinvention, I gathered a blazing electric band to forge our own path through the song. We fused the haunting imagery of ‘In the Pines’ popularized by Lead Belly, the visceral edge of Nirvana, and the electrifying spirit of Sister Rosetta Tharpe’s guitar work into a single roaring performance.”

SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA – “HAPPINESS IS SO SAD” (FT. LYKKE LI)
Swedish House Mafia and Lykke Li have teamed up for their first collaborative single, “Happiness is So Sad.” It was produced by SHM, PARISI, and Fred again.., and Max Martin and Oscar Holter have writing credits on it.

TWIN TEMPLE – “HAUNT ME”
Charlie Crockett might not be a fan, and they may or may not be actual Satanists, but duo Twin Temple sound pretty friendly, in a vintage ’50s rock n’ roll and country sort of way on their new single “Haunt Me.” It’s from upcoming album Doomed Lovers.

GROWING PAINS – “CRUSH”
Portland band Growing Pains release their new album Daniel Loves Mandy Forever on October 9 via Photo Finish, and they’ve given us another preview with “Crush,” which was inspired by Mulholland Drive. “This song is about trying, but failing to comprehend the nature of desire with language,” Carl Taylor says. “How do you articulate the failure of language? This song tries to examine this space–a breakthrough of romantic desire creating delirium in the subject.”

SENNEN – “HERE IT COMES”
UK band Sennen have announced New Quiet, their first album in a decade, which will be out October 30 via Sonic Cathedral. “In the past we’ve felt uncomfortable, but you can end up sabotaging a good idea like that,” says singer/guitarist Rich Kelleway. “On this album, I think we’re feeling a sense of freedom from self-imposed stipulations we’ve put upon ourselves.” This is the first single.

ANGELA AUTUMN – “HEAVY TOBACCO”
Angela Autumn gave us another preview of her new album Believer with “Heavy Tobacco.” “This is a song about the tobacco spirit,” she says. “In many cultures, particularly American indigenous, tobacco is regarded for its purification abilities. I don’t think many folks see tobacco as ‘healthy;’ quite the opposite. The message is that anything positive can become harmful when abused. It’s me reflecting upon choices that were necessary but carried both positive and negative consequences.”

Fcukers’ new EP, nüyork, features three songs from their debut album each remixed by a different NYC dance music icon: Justin Strauss, Junior Sanchez, and Eli Escobar.

PETER GABRIEL – “ONE BY ONE”
“This is another song that comes out of the brain show that I am working on and the character has been effectively torn apart and is trying to reassemble himself one piece at a time,” Peter Gabriel says of his latest o\i single. “I needed a character for the story and I’d always wanted to do a little more with Mozo, who I had introduced many years back, and I thought, well, let’s give him another blast here. He’s been brought back from the dead.”

SQUANDERERS (WENDY EISENBERG, DAVID GRUBBS, BONNER KRAMER) – “THEME FOR THE CASINO AT 5 A.M.”
Experimental musicians Wendy Eisenberg, David Grubbs, and Bonner Kramer have announced their third album as SQUANDERERS, titled Bright Madness and out September 25 via Drag City. Get a taste video the tranquil “Theme for the Casino at 5 A.M.”

NØ MAN – “THEY HAVE NAMES”
DC hardcore band NØ MAN — which features 3/4th of Majority Rule — will follow up 2024’s great Glitter and Spit with a new album, Between the Sword and the Neck, that’s out October 30 via Iodine Recordings. This is the new single.
