Tim Darcy, Julie Byrne, Dark Tea @ Baby’s All Right
Tima Darcy is best known for fronting Montreal’s nervy pop band Ought but releases his solo debut this week. He’s a charismatic guy and should do fine on his own. If you’re going, do get their early for the gorgeous, earth mother folk of Julie Byrne.
Night Train w/ Wyatt Cenac @ Littlefield
Wyatt Cenac turned his weekly Littlefield comedy show into a series for all-comedy streaming site Seeso, and they’re taping Season 2 this week. Tonight they’re taping two shows: 8 PM with Janelle James, Shane Torres, Joel Kim Booster, Emma Willmann, and more; and 10 PM with Michael Che, Marcella Arguello, Alex English, Kate Willett, and more. Both are sold out but you can try your luck with the stand-by line.
Blind Idiot God, STATS, Husbandry @ Saint Vitus Bar
Still led by Andy Hawkins (the only remaining founding member), tense, noisy instrumental act Blind Idiot God have been at it since the early ’80s when they released records on SST, and have since collaborated with John Zorn, Bill Laswell, and more. The years have not mellowed them one bit.
Speed The Plough (John & Toni), Sean Eden, Dave Derby, Renee LoBue, Laura Poe, Don Piper, Leslie Goshko, Gary Burton, Jessie Kilguss, Ben Cartel, Sebastian Blanck, Alison Tusick, Emma Kaye, Savak (Sohrab & Michael), Charles Bissel (of The Wrens), Joey Sweeney @ The Bowery Electric
It’s the annual ‘The Love Hangover’ concert that features “the world-weary and the true believers alike huddle in pairs, playing songs to heal broken hearts and break whole ones.”
John Fogerty @ The Capitol Theatre
John Fogerty’s written a handful of classics in Creedence Clearwater Revival and he’s had a lengthy solo career too. He returns to the NYC-area tonight, and he’s sure to play plenty of CCR.
XXYYXX, Beshken, Moon Bounce @ Warsaw
Florida beatmaker XXYYXX picked up some buzz a few years ago for his love of mixing R&B samples with thumping rhythms, and he continues to rise in the world.
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue @ Madison Square Garden
They aren’t quite the sock-wearing funk-punk troublemakers they once were, but Red Hot Chili Peppers still play the hits from when they were. This RHCP’s first of three MSG shows this week.
